Lymphatic drainage massage is one of the most soothing kinds of massage therapy and is hight beneficial to your mental and physical well-being.

Lymphatic drainage massage is gentle but very powerful and is used to reduce swelling from the surgery, reduce cellulite and fat and provide better mobility and circulation. This article will list things to have at the back of your mind before going for your first lymphatic drainage.

Do not apply lotion on your skin before the session

Lymphatic drainage massage is more effective when there is dry skin contact. The procedure requires a gentle, skin-stretching motion for maximum efficiency. As such, a lymphatic drainage massage should be done without lotion or oils, allowing your skin to stretch.

Empty your bladder beforehand

A lymphatic drainage massage encourages the lymphatic system to move stagnated fluids and work efficiently. As such, the procedure will have your bladder filling up with fluids, so it’s best to start as empty as possible.

Fast on the day of the massage

Make sure you eat very little or nothing on the day of your massage. A full stomach will get in the way of your masseuse giving you the best and most effective lymphatic drain.

When your stomach is full, and the massage isn’t done properly, then the aim is forfeited. Also, you may feel uncomfortable with a full stomach when the massage is done.

Keep yourself hydrated

Lymphatic drainage massage is mainly about detoxifying your body and ensuring fluid movement, hence the need for proper hydration when going for your session. Drink multiple glasses of water before heading for your massage for the best results.

Wear minimal clothing

Massages are most effective with minimal clothes on. As such, you should wear loose clothing for the best results. Heavy clothing will get in the way of the masseuse from reaching all the needed areas.

Call if you are ill

If you feel unwell, ensure to call to notify your therapist to shorten or cancel your appointment. A lymphatic drainage massage is not recommended when you are ill, as it may aggravate your condition. Avoid doing a long lymphatic drainage massage session if you are ill or recovering from an ailment.

Prepare to move your body afterward

Bear at the back of your mind that you will need to move your body after the lymphatic drainage massage session. Ensure to move around for about 15 minutes to get proper circulation. However, it doesn’t have to be a rigorous exercise. A slow walk around the neighborhood will suffice.
